Radford Rugby participated in its 1st 7’s tournament of the year in Richmond VA. Radford competed in a pool of 4 teams. The team brought 9 players and they played all 4 games. In the first game Radford came out with a full head of steam to defeat ECU 42-12 for their very first sevens game win. The second game the team had a tougher opponent but came out with a 26-12 win over Longwood. This advanced RU out of group play and into the semifinal against Mary Wash where they took a tough defeat 45-19. This put them in the consolation round where we just ran out of time and had a close loss to St. Mary 26-17. All and all they athletes looked good for their first time playing sevens. The Men’s Rugby Alumni Association Vice President Justin Paxton thinks this would be a good tournament for the athletes to continue attend in the future. It’s about a month after their 15’s season and a week or two away from exams. Justin had the opportunity to be on hand and assist the guys throughout the day along with a few other Alumni Association members. The Alumni Association looks forward to the continued success of this program.
